Momentum Ride is Beginning. In this issue: Momentum’s Favorite Child.
Wall Street just sounded the bull horn. Momentum is back. And our job is to ride the tide, but to not be the last to get off the train when it derails. You can get all the details in this week’s Market Summary, emailed separately and available on the web site.
This week I am adding a new stock, which I call Momentum’s Favorite Child. This is a popular company, a leader in its field, which has a reliable trading characteristic: it’s a favorite of big money traders. That means that when momentum runs, such as what we’re likely to see over the next few weeks, the odds also favor this stock exploding.
In addition, one of our Trend Trading Portfolio holdings is up nearly $1800 since we bought it in May. The stock looks as if it has more in the tank, but with that type of haul already in our pockets, this is a good time to take some profits.
And if that wasn’t enough, our housing stocks are perking up and one of our Rainy Day portfolio long term holdings is nearing an all time high.
Meanwhile, we took some profits last week, which delivered a nice $1000 plus haul, as I describe below:
· SOLD Nutrien LTD (NTR). Bought 4/28/25: $55.50. SOLD 6/23/25 closing price: $60. Return for this trade: $450/100 shares (8.1%).
· SOLD Comstock Resources (CRK). Bought 6/9/25: $24.50. SOLD 6/27/25: $28.50. Return for this trade: $400/100 shares (16.32%).
· Closed Chevron (CVX), July 25, 2025 $150 Call Option. Bought 6/16/25: $2.60. Closed 6/23/25 closing price: $4.40. Return for this trade: $180/contract: $69%.
Here’s our trading plan:
Stay calm and focused;
Follow the status of the market’s liquidity closely;
Keep abreast of the market’s sentiment;
Monitor each portfolio position individually;
Consider taking profits on positions that are extended and thus vulnerable to profit taking;
If a position is stopped out, move on;
If a position is not stopped out, keep it in the portfolio; and
The Weekender Portfolio is designed for investors with a more relaxed attitude and longer term time horizons that our short term focused Smart Money Passport portfolio.
